We are invulnerable until we're not. Sometimes that happens in an instant a moment. Such has been my experience a few times.

This note is to thank the woman in blue scrubs (approx. 5-foot 6, brunette shoulder length hair, approximately 130 lbs., silver engagement and wedding bands) at the Spirit Lake Walmart at 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 12. I was slow in the self-checkout lane, holding her up in her errand to get some beers for the house. Then my cane fell to the ground, and I was staring at it. I was staring at it so I could divine a way to pick it up without falling on my face.

The woman in blue scrubs offered to pick the cane up for me. I declined, but I wish to thank her for her kindness. She could have looked the other way.

Very truly yours,

Wm. Eginton
