Letter to the Editor

Dear editor,

Tuesday, March 16, 2021

During this terrible pandemic, so many people have lost their jobs, health and employer-provided group health care insurance. Sadly, many of these jobs are not coming back, leaving people uninsured. If applying for private insurance, a previous health condition - including a COVID-19 related complication - could lead to denial of coverage. Thanks to President Biden's executive order reopening enrollment in the Affordable Care Act, many people who lost their jobs or have COVID-related pre-existing conditions will be able to get health care coverage.

Recall that last December, the Trump administration cut open enrollment in the federal exchange in half. Newly enacted and signed legislation may also provide needed assistance in obtaining health coverage.
