Every two seconds, someone, somewhere needs blood. During the winter months the need for blood is constant, however, poor weather conditions can make it challenging for donors to give blood. In an effort to boost the blood supply during the winter months, January has been designated as National Blood Donor Month to encourage donors to give blood. Just one unit of blood can help save the lives of up to three hospital patients.
A huge thank you to the Spirit Lake community for stepping up on Jan. 14 and donating 40 units of blood products to deliver to the local hospitals. Please say thank you if you know any of the donors who donated.
You can make a difference by making a life-saving blood donation at the next Spirit Lake Community Blood Drive. The blood drive will take place from 1-5:45 p.m. March 10 in the Expo Hall at the Dickinson County Community Building, 1602 15th St., Spirit Lake.
