Paying it forward
Wednesday, December 18, 2013
The Northwest Iowa Youth Athletic Association (NWIYAA) youth girl's basketball program would like to thank the Harris and Lake Park communities, along with the many family members and friends who came out to show support on Oct. 20, at a Belgian waffle brunch. Nearly 150 supporters enjoyed Belgian waffles, complete with all the toppings -- prepared and served by the girls -- and sausages prepared by Forbes Meat of Harris and Spirit Lake. The brunch was held at the Harris-Lake Park Middle/High School commons and was sponsored by Great Lakes Countertops & Kitchens of Lake Park and Le Mars.
The young ladies, lead by the 6th, 7th and 8th graders, planned and hosted the waffle brunch to raise $1,500 to purchase 24 travel team jerseys to be used for years to come. The girls received additional support from the Lake Park Town and Country Boosters. Paying it forward, the 6th-8th grade girls donated their former jerseys back to the NWIYAA Youth Girl's Basketball program for the 3rd-5th grade girls to use in practices and tournaments.
The girls are participating in numerous basketball tournaments across the area including the Harris-Lake Park Athletic Boosters 5-8th Grade Girl's Basketball Tournament on Feb. 15, 2014 at the H-LP Middle/High School.
Thank you everyone for your support!
