Big Spirit Lake has suffered an environmental disaster. Just east of Crandall's Beach, at the northwest corner of the lake, trees have been cut down and the entire lake shore bank excavated.
How could this happen in an era of "minimum impact development?" How could the water quality commission, Dickinson County and the Iowa DNR allow this to proceed?
Beck Engineering, BEI, which has received thousands of tax dollars to design and build minimum impact structures is the excavator.
Is someone's dream lake house so important the shoreline bank has to be removed? How many rain gardens will it take to mitigate the damage to Big Spirit Lake?
We need appointed and elected officials who will stop such "development."
This would never be allowed on West Lake Okoboji.
