Mardel Theresa (Hassel) Heywood was born on a farm 7 miles east of Graettinger on Dec. 19, 1932, in the midst of the Great Depression. She was the only child of Benedict and Mayme (Boecker) Hassel. She passed away on Nov. 7, 2023, at her home in Spirit Lake at the age of 90 surrounded by her family.

Doris Ann Macek, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, passed away on Oct. 28, 2023. She was born on Sept. 6, 1933, in Spencer to her loving parents, Omer and Esther (Krager) Crosser.
