A pair of Republican candidates will go head to head during the June 7 Primary Election as they seek an open seat in the Iowa Senate. David Dow of Emmetsburg and Dave Rowley of Spirit Lake were the only candidates to file papers to appear on the upcoming local ballot. Zach Whiting of Spirit Lake in October that year.

Candidates both Rep. and Dem. enter contested primaries for U.S. Senate seat

Iowa's U.S. Senate race this year features contested primary races on both sides of the political aisle. The winners of those primaries will have to compete at the ballot box again come November. Incumbent U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley has been challenged by fellow Republican State Sen. Jim Carlin. On the Democrats' side of the ballot, three candidates will seek the primary win to take on the GOP victor.
