Tuesday, April 3, 2012

A two-vehicle collision at about 5 p.m. Monday along Highway 71 sent operators of each automobile to Lakes Regional Healthcare with undisclosed injuries. The crash took place near the intersection of 30th Street and Highway 71. The Spirit Lake Police Department reported that Lynden Holloway, 51, of Pfluggerville, Texas -- driver of a 1999 Toyota -- had come to a stop for a red stop light when her car was rear-ended by a 2002 Chevrolet pickup driven by Geraldine Evans, 58, of Spirit Lake. Evans was cited for failure to stop in a clear distance. The local fire department was paged out for a possible fuel leak. The southbound lane of Highway 71 was reduced to one-lane for well over 45 minutes while crews monitored the wreckage and attended to the injured drivers. Holloway and Evans were taken from the scene by ambulance to LRH. Rescue workers attended to Evans' truck and helped pull the driver out of the vehicle onto a stretcher and into the ambulance. No further information was provided pertaining the extent of injuries or condition of each driver. The pickup driven by Evans sustained an estimated $7,000 in damage near the front section of the truck and $6,000 in damage was estimated to the rear section of the Toyota driven by Holloway.
