The Right Rev. Alan Scarfe, Bishop of Iowa, will ordain The Rev. Elizabeth Cone Preston to the Sacred Order of Priests at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Spirit Lake. Following the service, there will be a reception in Preston's honor.
Beth is married to Dr. Glenn G. Preston, Medical Director of the Abben Cancer Center in Spencer. They have four children — Luke, Grace, Mercy and Peace. The Prestons moved to Spencer five years ago from Marble Falls, Texas. Preston's parents were both originally from Muscatine and her ancestors settled Conesville. Her father, J. Richard Cone and brother, Jared Cone and his family, live in St. Louis County, Missouri.
Beth recently graduated from Nashotah House Theological Seminary near Delafield, Wisconsin, with a master of pastoral ministry. She also holds a master of arts in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she met Glenn. She completed her undergraduate degree at Sweet Briar College in Virginia.
Besides homeschooling their children, Preston has held a variety of positions, including that of art teacher, Ronald McDonald House Manager, Child Protective Services worker and freelance editor.
Following ordination, she will be serving locally in the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa.
This will be a busy week at St. Alban's. The church will be offering its Adult Sunday School at 9 a.m. and Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m. Sunday. The church will also offer a service of Holy Eucharist on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. On the previous Thursday evening, July 12, members of the church will be serving the meal at the Community Table.
St. Alban's Episcopal Church is located at 2011 23rd St. in Spirit Lake, just east of the Lakes regional Hospital.
