Spirit Lake, you did it again! We exceeded our goal of 46 units of blood and got a total of 53 units on our Jan. 25 blood drive for the American Red Cross. We had 56 scheduled appointments and only three "no shows." We had five deferrals and one incomplete. We had 41 whole blood donors and 12 double red donors. Thank you to all of you.

Our desire is for all those who make appointments to come and get our “no shows” to zero.

On behalf of the American Red Cross, I wish to express my deep appreciation and say thank you to all the volunteers and donors. Those volunteering were; Carol Banta, Cheryl Petersen, Grace Gerdes, DeNeitt Van Den Broeke, Judy Jensen and Mary Lempiainen. I am so thankful for the donors as well as all the volunteers who so graciously give of their time willingly.

Our blood banks are dangerously low and, because we cannot manufacture blood, it is so important to do what we can to increase our supply. Another benefit is when you are a donor, you are tested for COVID-19 antibodies.

You all made a difference in someone’s life, and your generosity is most appreciated by those needing transfusions in trauma situations and for on-going treatment of chronic life-threatening illnesses.

Mark your calendar for May 17, and let’s exceed our goal again. I know we can do it. By that time, we hope to celebrating spring.
