A correction needed?

Tuesday, May 7, 2019

Residents of Spirit Lake have many community assets to be thankful for. For a city of our size, we share benefits usually found only in larger ones. Fortunately, tourism contributes for the cost of some of these assets. However, some assets remain for our citizenry to fund.

The Spirit Lake Fire Department is an asset we all take for granted. They will be there when the need arises. Whenever the alarm is sounded they are ready to assemble and take the risks associated with fighting fires. Time spent fighting a fire or training to fight a fire is $10 per hour. Should a greeter at Walmart be paid more than our fire fighters?

I will not suggest an appropriate rate, but leave it to the Spirit Lake City Council to determine the amount to pay for this valuable asset.
