'Shake the Lakes' brings thousands to Spirit Lake

Thousand of music students and their parents from Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska descended on Spirit Lake for the second annual "Shake the Lakes Swing and Jazz Choir Competition" Friday night and Saturday. Winners were:

SHOW CHOIR

Grand Champion — The Bellevue West "West Connection."

1st Runner Up — Sioux City Heeland "Harmonia Mundi"

2nd Runner up — Omaha Skutt "Vivace"

3rd: Sioux Center — "Satisfaction"

Best Vocals — Bellevue West

Best Visuals — Bellevue West

1st — Harris-Lake Park 

2nd — Hartley Melvin Sanborn 

3rd — GTRA "Fermata Thin Air"

3rd — Emmetsburg "E-Harmony"

2nd — Green County "Jazzatonics"

Best Male Solo — Christian Ramirez (MVAOCOU)

Best Female Solo — Makenna Fox (Green County)

MIDDLE SCHOOL SHOW CHOIR

1st — Sioux City East "Evolution"

2nd — Sioux Center "Adrenaline"

3rd — Emmetsburg "Evolution"

 

Since Spirit Lake hosted the event, their show choirs performed but did not participate in competition.  They will be on the road competing the next three weekends at show choir competitions hosted by Sioux City Heelan, Emmetsburg and Westwood Sloan.

Organizers of  "Shake the Lakes" thank the many volunteers for making the weekend a success, and say most of the participating show choirs have already committed to return for next year's event.
