No. 12 Pioneers defeat Sheldon at home
Okoboji stormed out to an early lead and pulled away late in a home contest with Sheldon on Tuesday in Milford. The Pioneers defeated the Orabs 63-41 in Siouxland Conference girls basketball action.
The Pioneers led 14-6 after one quarter and took a 24-15 lead into the halftime break.
Okoboji continued to add to its lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Orabs 20-14, before salting away the victory with a 19-12 score in the final frame.
"We came out with a lot of energy tonight and were able to get a nice early cushion," Okoboji coach John Adams said. "We struggled at the start of the second quarter, but a lot of that was due to Sheldonís tough defense. We told the girls at halftime to push the ball more, and if we donít have a good look to then be patient on offense and keep the defensive intensity up. It was fun to see the shots start to fall in the third quarter.†Our bench was very good again tonight, as all 12 kids saw some quality minutes and had a major impact on this game. This group is doing a very good job of staying connected and committed to each other and itís been a joy to coach them."
Kallyn Stumbo led the Pioneers with 22 points and seven assists on the night.
Magan Christopherson had 18 points and two steals. Montana Wilson had eight points. Camry Jones had seven points and six rebounds for the Pioneers, who improved to 13-2 overall and 10-2 in conference play.
Okoboji will travel to Rock Valley on Friday, Jan. 18, before heading to Orange City on Tuesday, Jan. 22, to take on MOC-Floyd Valley.
