The Iowa Lakes women’s basketball team picked up a 71-61 road win over Minnesota West Saturday to move to 7-1 on the season.

The Lakers were led by freshman Breanna Wendland’s 23 points. Freshman Samantha Hagedorn tallied 17 points, freshman Shareece Smith added 13 points and freshman Safiyer Coleman tacked on 11.

“I thought our effort on the defensive end in the second half was really good,” Laker women’s basketball coach Ashley Martin said. “We are a very young team and are learning how hard you have to play every possession. We are working on playing through mistakes and continuing to grow. This coming week will present a lot of good challenges for the team. We will play three games in six days against all very good teams. I look for us to continue to improve and embrace these opportunities.”
