Gratitude for blood donors
On behalf of the American Red Cross, I wish to express my deep appreciation and say "thank you" to every donor, volunteer and support person who participated in the Oct. 15 blood drive in Spirit Lake. A special thanks go to Grace Lutheran Church for providing a wonderful place for this to happen.
It was a beautiful day with sunshine and no rain so our donors were few and far between. The numbers were down and we only obtained 25 units with 21 procedures, three deferrals and two incomplete. Our goal was 36. We are sure hoping for a better turnout on Jan. 28 when they come again.
Because of the natural disasters lately, the blood drive in many areas had to be cancelled so the blood supply is at a dangerous low.
We had gracious and wiling volunteers and for that I am certainly grateful. A big thank you to Ruth Heyne, Judy Hagadorn, Carolyn Vincelli, Jean Anderson, Leah Streeter and Grace Gerdes.
You all made a difference in someone's life and your generosity is most appreciated by those needing transfusions in trauma situations and for on-going treatment of chronic life-threatening illnesses. Blood is in very short supply and we are in desperate need.
Mark your calendar for Jan. 28, 2019, and let's make up for the low count in October.
