Terril Fun Days approach
All are welcome to Terril on Aug. 10-11 for Terril Fun Days 2018.
Celebration organizers have many events going on these two days, so there should be something for everyone.
The evening will start with a kids carnival at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Outer Limits Restaurant.
There will also be an adult hot dog eating contest and karaoke later in the evening.
On Saturday, Aug. 11, events such as a bean bag tournament, gravel grinder bike ride, trap shoot, truck-and-tractor pull, junk art contest, horse shoes, pie and ice cream and kids events will be held. Saturday evening we will have the band, Anthony Koester and the Skunk Band in front of Mainstreet Bar. We are selling raffle tickets, T-shirts, there will be food and a lot of fun.
Terril is also looking toward its 125th birthday in the year 2020.
KIDS CARNIVAL OPENS FUN DAYS
Fun starts at The Outer Limits Restaurant with a Kids Carnival fro 5-7 p.m. This will include games, Jell-O eating contest, a dance contest and more. At 7 p.m., the hot dog eating contest will begin. There will be a junior division, a women's division and a men's division. Karaoke will start at 8 p.m. with Rob Burrito spinning the tunes and encouraging all to show their stuff. Also at 8 p.m. the kids can head up town to the green space across from the bank for some fun swinging at pinatas for candy and then a "Movie on Main."
GRAVEL GRINDER BIKE RIDE INCLUDES SEVERAL HIGHLIGHTS
The 8 a.m. Terril Fun Days Gravel Grinder Bike Ride will begin Saturday at Fairchild Welding in Terril by the big bicycle. After picking up a free care package supplied by the Ruthven Meat Locker, the ride will meander to Wallingford, crossing the hydrological divide splitting the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers and stopping at the pub for a light breakfast and beverages.
After leaving Wallingford, riders will climb for several miles again crossing the divide. At about the 23-mile mark, the choice must be made by riders — stop at 25 miles or keep going for 50 miles. Riders who choose the 50-mile route will keep going to Superior.
Riders will leave Superior heading north — stopping just short of the Minnesota border. The next stop will be the Little Swan Lake Winery. Bison burgers will be available on the menu. Riders will head south to McBreen's honey, horseradish and produce farm operated by Dave and Bev McBreen. They will have a hydration station at the location. Riders will pass Pleasant Lake and other wildlife areas on the way back to Terril.
