Local climate group to meet

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

The Iowa Great Lakes Chapter of the volunteer Citizens Climate Education/Lobby organization will hold its monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14 in Waitt Lab of the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory located on Iowa Highway 86 on the west side of Millers Bay on West Lake Okoboji near Milford.

Refreshments and snacks will be served. Attendees are invited to bring some food to share, if not, they are still welcome.

Citizens' Climate Education (CCE) is a registered nonprofit 501(c)(3) that provides resources to educate ordinary citizens about the scientific, economic, policy, and environmental implications of climate change and climate change solutions. Citizens Climate Lobby, by contrast, has lobbying powers as a 501(c)(4) organization and is dedicated to a bipartisan approach empowering citizens to connect with and influence their members of Congress.

This month's meeting offers a solid agenda, including opportunities for members to plan and form "action groups" that will study a variety of climate change problems and seek respectful solutions. Recent activities, such as tabling at the Farmers Market, legislative issues, Iowa’s GO (Grasstops Outreach to Business Leaders) Team, the CCL North Wind Regional Conference in Rapid City in September, conservation farming (regenerative agriculture), carbon sequestration, the 2018 Farm Bill and more will be discussed.

The July guest speaker via webinar at noon will be Adele Morris, a senior fellow and policy director for Climate and Energy Economics at the Brookings Institution.
