Giving blood, receiving support
The American Red Cross Serving Greater Iowa would like to thank everyone in the Iowa Great Lakes Region who donated to the Good Neighbor Fund this year. The grant money given to the Red Cross will help us continue to provide services to those recovering from disasters in northwest Iowa during their time of greatest need. Already in 2018, volunteers with the Red Cross have responded to 34 home fires here in northwest Iowa.
The money donated to the Red Cross mission allows us to help victims of disasters, like home fires, find temporary housing and meet their most pressing immediate needs. The Red Cross also provides health and safety training in your communities as well as services to members of the armed forces and their families. This spring we installed free smoke alarms in neighborhoods in Fort Dodge and Sioux City that were identified by fire department officials as areas that could benefit from our Sound the Alarm fire preparedness program. Between the two cities our Red Cross workers and community partners made 135 homes safer.
All this is possible because of the generosity of Iowans who appreciate and understand the role the Red Cross plays in disaster prevention, preparedness and response on a daily basis. Thank you again to all who donated this year to the Good Neighbor Fund. Your money will truly help your neighbors in the Iowa Great Lakes Region.
