Estella Elizabeth Harmon, 93, of Okoboji passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Lakes Regional Health Care in Spirit Lake.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial of her cremains will be at a later date in the Lake View Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Arrangements are under the direction of the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral in Spirit Lake. Estella was born on May 19, 1924, in Tea, Missouri, to John and Martha (Holm) McManness. She graduated from Estherville High School. Estella was married to Richard “Dick” Harmon, from Spirit Lake, on June 27, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 2012, in Spirit Lake. She worked for many years as a long-distance operator for Northwestern Bell in Sioux City. After retirement Estella and Dick moved to Spirit Lake.
She had a passion for art and was a creative and talented artist. Active in art associations, she showed her art in Sioux City and the Lakes Area. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews as “The Fun Aunt.” Estella was a member of the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church, Spirit Lake Women’s Club and the Lakes Art Center.
Estella is survived by her three daughters Elizabeth McCarthy of Okoboji; Denice Levay of Sioux City and Darcel Boyok of Sioux City; grandchildren; Shannon (Todd) Kuntz, Sarah Boyok Goff, Heather (Kurt) Schroeder, Jessica (Jason) Lesher, and Allison (Elliot) Ness, 12 great-grandchildren, and her sister in law, Mrs. John (Jean) McManness of Estherville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Richard A. Harmon, three sisters and five brothers
