Heldt-Laker Memorial Golf Outing funds student scholarships
Golfers and community members united to raise money for Iowa Lakes Community College student scholarships Friday, July 14, at the annual Linda Heldt Memorial Laker Scholarship Golf Outing.
The event at the Estherville Golf Course saw a record turnout, with more than 100 participants contributing to Heldt Memorial Scholarships.
“The overwhelming support at this year's event has been amazing,” said Jolene Rogers, executive director of community & business relations at Iowa Lakes.
Every year, a sophomore in each Iowa Lakes sport who exemplifies service to others and a strong commitment to leadership is chosen to receive the scholarship, which is named after a long-time, respected Iowa Lakes Athletic Department employee who died of pancreatic cancer in 2007.
“It's so wonderful to meet with the Heldt family each year and celebrate the legacy Linda started in care and guidance of our student athletes,” Rogers said.
The golf outing has a nine-hole, four-person best shot tournament format. The Kingston Life & Health team of Tim Johnson, Jeff Soper, Nick Christiansen, and Trevor Enerson took top flight honors this year, and Linda Heldt’s family golfed at the event as well, showing their support for Iowa Lakes students.
Iowa Lakes thanks all the volunteers who made the event possible, as well as Keith Fuller and the staff at the Estherville Golf Course.
