PLAC announces upcoming exhibition

Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Two upcoming exhibitions at the Pearson Lakes Art Center are seeking artwork for a common subject matter: “The Northwest Iowa Landscape.”

Set up an easel — or your camera — to capture your perspective on the beauty of northwest Iowa. Then, submit artwork for exhibition at the Pearson Lakes Art Center.

The Plein Air Painting Exhibition, a bi-annual favorite at the center, invites painters to work outdoors in the Iowa Great Lakes Region and surrounding communities. This event is for all artists who paint using the plein air technique (all art created in the field, no studio work allowed) in oil, watercolor, acrylic, gouache and pastel. Artists will have their canvas or papers stamped and authenticated prior to painting beginning Aug. 11 and ending Aug. 16, during art center hours. Finished works must be delivered to the center, ready for gallery presentation, by noon on Wednesday, Aug. 16. The work will then be judged — and awards given — at the opening reception held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17.

The Pearson Lakes Art Center’s Landscape Photography Exhibition encourages photographers of all skill levels to exhibit their photography work featuring the landscape, with an emphasis on Iowa and the Iowa Great Lakes Region. This exhibit will be held alongside the Plein Air exhibit, Aug. 17 – Sept. 16. Each artist may submit up to three photos, to be delivered to the center by Aug. 13 during business hours, and the work must be ready for professional gallery presentation (framed, canvas wrapped, etc.). Artists are encouraged to attend the opening reception for this exhibit will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17.

There is a $10 entry fee for each exhibit. For more information, email to receive the complete information form or visit and click on our Call to Artists tab.

The Pearson Lakes Art Center has no admission charge. Summer Hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday; 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday, noon – 3 p.m. Sundays.
