Wolves run into buzzsaw in second round of tourney
Coming off a rousing 2-0 victory over Trinity Christian in the opening round of the Class 1A Region 2 tournament, the Harris-Lake Park softball team ran into the buzzsaw that is Akron-Westfield in round two, falling to the Westerners 18-0 on Wednesday.
The second-ranked and returning state runner-up Westerners made quick work of the Wolves in Akron, plating 14 runs in the opening frame and scoring four more in the second while limiting the Wolves to just one hit in three innings.
Morgan Bradley recorded that hit in the third and was one of two Wolves batters to reach base in the inning, as Taylor Meyer reached on an error.
Akron-Westfield senior Ann Hedlund earned the win for the Westerners. She allowed one hit and one walk while striking out six Wolves batters in three innings of work.
With the loss, the Wolves end their season with a 10-17 overall record and a 5-6 mark in the War Eagle Conference.
