Indians host 32nd Sheryl Maahs Relays

Spirit Lake Park's Kourtney Delperdang defended her 3,000-meter championship Tuesday at the 32nd running of the Sheryl Maahs Relays in Spirit Lake.

The Spirit Lake Park girls track team played host to the 32nd Sheryl Maahs Relays Tuesday in Spirit Lake, placing second in the team standing behind champion Algona.

The Bulldogs won with a total of 142 points in the five-team meet, topping the Indians (94), Emmetsburg (63), Okoboji (60) and Estherville Lincoln Central (27).

"What a spectacular night for a track meet in Spirit Lake," Spirit Lake Park coach TIm Heinitz said. "It was perfect outside and our athletes had a very good night. We had many (personal bests) and we made some decisions for both the conference and district meet going forward. A special thanks to our seniors who should be proud of all their accomplishments. Thanks so much for all your hard work and dedication in the various years you have put in to our track program."

Okoboji's Elle Olthoff won the high jump title at the Sheryl Maahs Relays on Tuesday.

Spirit Lake Park crowned four champions on the day. Karli Olsen won the 400-meter dash and Kourtney Delperdang repeated as the 3,000-meter champion.

Olsen also led the 4x400-meter relay team of Mady Sieperda, Maddie Vierkant and Payton Ahrenstorff to a win, while Ahrenstorff, Emily Parks, Sieperda and Grace Elser won the 4x200-meter relay.

Delperdang also finished second in the high jump. Sierra Gross placed second in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the 100-meter dash. Emerson Latham placed second in the long jump.

Magan Christopherson takes the baton from teammate Kallyn Stumbo in the Pioneers' first-place running of the distance medley.

The 4x100-meter and spring medley relay teams earned runner-up finishes.

Shaunna Pobuda was third in the 1,500-meter run. Lucy O'Hagan was third int he 3,000-meter run. Josie Fagen was third in the shot put.

The SLP distance medley placed third.

Spirit Lake's Emerson Latham placed second in the long jump Tuesday.

Okoboji also had four champions on the night.

Mari Stein won the 1,500-meter run. Mia Meyer won the 400-meter hurdles.

Elle Olthoff won the high jump and helped Marlayna Bennett, Kallyn Stumbo and Magan Christopherson to a win in the distance medley relay.

Okoboji's Siera Seeders launches the shot Tuesday afternoon at Sheryl Maahs Track.

Ali Goehring placed second in the 400-meter dash. Okoboji's 4x400-meter relay team placed second.

Siera Seeders placed third in the discus.
