End of the session
On April 22, we concluded the 2017 legislative session. Typically, this session was to have 110 days. We cut it down to 100 days in the de-appropriation bill, but went into overtime by about four days.
We accomplished a lot this session. We were not elected to sit idle. We worked hard and got the people’s work done.
We were able to send four bills from constituents of House District 2 down to the governor. Three of those have been signed already: Clay County drivers license station, forcible entry and detainer and letting 16- and 17-year-olds do laundry at work.
As the weeks progress, I expect we will be seeing more bill signings from Governor Branstad – and maybe some from our future governor, Kim Reynolds, who will likely be taking over at some point in May. Governor Branstad had a nomination hearing on May 2.
I will periodically send out newsletters during the interim, albeit less frequently than the weekly ones during session.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you in the Iowa Legislature.
