Cora Everhart, 9, of Everly, was among many young people who had the opportunity to enjoy a horse ride Friday over the noon hour. Associated with the annual Pony Express Ride on Good Friday, volunteers with the local organization offered the rides in the Bomgaars parking lot. Spencer was home of the original Pony Express Ride 50 years ago. On Saturday, March 25, local Pony Express Riders celebrated the 50th anniversary by re-riding the original 100-mile routes that Stub Johnson, Leo Gray and Wayne Nielsen rode on March 25, 1967. The statewide Pony Express Riders event conducted on Good Friday is part of it annual fundraiser for Camp Sunnyside which to date has raised more than $10 million for the program.
