Laker softball signs Heckard
Iowa Lakes Community College softball coach Katie Larson announced the signing of Gabby Heckard to the 2017-2018 recruiting class. Gabby is the daughter of Gary and Joan Heckard and played for the Estherville Lincoln Central High School Midgets.
“We are very excited that Gabby decided to attend Iowa Lakes next year,” Larson said. “Gabby is the type of kid that every coach wants on their team. The time and dedication that she puts into this game not only makes herself, but also her teammates better. I believe this stems from the work ethic that Coach Anderson instills in her girls at ELC.”
A three-time letter winner for the Midgets, Heckard will see most of her time in the outfield.
So far in her career, Gabby is batting .303 with 37 hits, including nine doubles, two triples, and five home runs. She has batted in 35 runs and has crossed the plate 46 times herself.
In her junior season, Gabby helped lead her team to a state tournament appearance and was named First Team All-Lakes Conference.
Gabby has also been outstanding off the softball diamond. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has lettered in academics for four years. She has also been on the “A” Honor Roll four consecutive years and will be receiving a Purple Cord upon graduation.
“Gabby has a cannon from the outfield," Larson said. "She does a great job of covering ground and tracking the ball in the grass. Gabby consistently gets on base, but also has some home run power. Off the field, she is a great character kid. She will be a great role-model for the youth in the community. We are excited to watch Gabby grow as a student-athlete next year!”
