Indians place second at ELC
The Spirit Lake Park girls track team picked up 14 top-three placings Friday to earn a runner-up finish behind Spencer at a meet hosted by Estherville Lincoln Central.
The Indians totaled 125 points to the Tigers' 184.5.
"It was a great night for a track meet [Friday at] ELC," Spirit Lake Park coach Tim Heinitz said. "[We] finally had great weather and it was a fun and productive night for our ladies. We had a lot of girls step up and run events that they were not used to and everyone did their part in our second-place finish overall, even though we were missing some varsity athletes."
Spirit Lake Park earned a pair of first-place finishes on the night, as Payton Ahrenstorff won the 200-meter dash in 27.01 seconds and joined Emily Parks, Kaylee Boelter and Mady Sieperda in a first-place time of 1 minute, 57.31 seconds in the sprint medley.
The same quartet also earned a second-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay with their time of 1:53.90. It was one of six runner-up finish for the Indians.
Grace Gommesh placed second in the high jump with her leap of 4 feet, 4 inches. Emerson Latham was runner-up in the long jump with her leap of 14 feet, 10 inches. MaKenna Murray placed second in the 400-meter dash in 66.17 seconds. Cameron Quance placed second in the 1,500-meter run in 5:55.72, and the 4x400-meter relay of Murray, Kiersten Carpenter, Kelsey Delperdang and Boelter placed second in 4:32.06.
The Indians also earned six third-place finishes on the day.
Josie Fagen was third in the shot put with her toss of 32 feet, 1.25 inches. Lucy O'Hagan was third in the 3,000 meters with her time of 13:01.13. Grace Elser was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 78.26 seconds.
The shuttle hurdle relay team of Cameron Quance, Allison Schroeder, Elser and Elly Watje was third in 83.20 seconds. The distance medley team of Hannah Brumley, Elser, Sieperda and Carpenter was third in 4:46.27. And the 4x100-meter relay team of Parks, Ahrenstorff, Delperdang and Boelter was third in 53.26 seconds.
