Where has the Republican Party gone?

Tuesday, April 26, 2016

I long for the return of the true Republican Party. It once was the party of ideas and of getting things done to better the lives of all our citizens.

I am amazed as I listen to the party's presidential candidates and to our state and federal legislatures make statements and pass laws that do anything but make lives for our citizens better.

Discrimination against gay and transgender people could become an acceptable action. Separation of church and state seems long forgotten as pursuance of religious issues remain major actions. Laws to restrict voting rights are now appearing in certain states.

Although we are a nation of immigrants, an attitude of distrust and even hatred has developed to prevent perceived unworthy peoples from entering or remaining within our borders. Cooperation, or being willing to work with our elected president in any way, has become a reason for criticism and opposition for reelection and has resulted in an approval rating of just 13 percent by our U.S. citizenry of our United States Congress. When the Republican Party again becomes the party of the people, I will consider rejoining the party.
