DAR honors Spirit Lake Library director

Spirit Lake Library Director Cindy Davis has been honored with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Ladies of the Lake Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. DAR Regent Colleen Lemkuil thanked Davis for her support of Constitution Week Sept. 17-23. in both 2014 and 2015. Davis promoted the event in library news and publicity, arranged for an exhibit, and also joined a diverse group of community leaders in reading the U.S. Constitution aloud at the Library on Sept. 17.

Regent Lemkuil also thanks Manager Moses McBride of Wal-Mart, Spirit Lake, for donating the refreshments. During the social hour, discussion of the Constitution included comments such as "I didn't know that" and "what it says is different from what I thought that it said ... "

Carl Mann and Kathy Wassom, both of St Albans Episcopal Church, Spirit Lake.

DAR members who participated were Sharon Kay Wilson Godfrey, Spirit Lake and Cherokee; June Parker Goldman, Spirit Lake; JoAnne Heerdt, Milford; DAR Historian/Librarian Maryanna Hubbard, Arnolds Park; Paula Zenor, RSVP Coordinator, Spirit Lake, also Constitution Week Co-Chairs, Regent Lemkuil and Sue Fontaine,Wahpeton.

Lemkuil also thanked Librarian Davis for her support of the ongoing Vietnam War Project to honor veterans of that conflict who answered the call to service but have never been thanked. Area residents are invited to bring photos of family and friends who served in the Vietnam War for display on "The Wall of Service." From Oct. 1-31, the Lake Park Library will feature the Vietnam Veterans exhibit which opened at the Spirit Lake Library in July. It recently traveled to the Primghar and Spencer libraries.

The public is invited to attend the Oct. 13 meeting of the Ladies of the Lake to hear Dan Kaercher, PBS travel series host and author. He will give his audience an armchair tour of historic sites and treasures in Iowa. The program will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Keelson Harbour Assisted Living Community off Highway 71, Spirit Lake and is free and open to the public.
