A great night for the kids
On Jan. 2, about 70 students and guests gathered at the Spirit Lake High School to celebrate and support Children's Miracle Network with a mini-Dance Marathon, similar to the events held at colleges and Universities across the country.
At our first event, in one evening, we raised more than $1,700 that will be sent to the Iowa State Dance Marathon and 100 percent will be used to benefit the University of Iowa Children's Hospital and Clinics. We are also sending five fleece blankets created by SLHS students to the hospital to be distributed to patients.
The students were privileged to hear from three families, with local ties, who have been directly impacted by the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. Having them share their experiences inspired our high school students and helped us understand what a difference we can make with this project.
We are so thankful for the community support we received. Donations of food and prizes were provided by; the Spirit Lake Hy-Vee, Pizza Ranch, Arby's, Jennings Tow and Repair, The Three Sons, and Custom Creations. We appreciated publicity from KUOO, Dickinson County News and the Lakes News Shopper.
We had a great team of students coordinating the games, music, service projects and food. We also appreciated support from our Key Club sponsor, Mr. Brock Holman, and SLHS alumni, Anna Pringnitz, Ashley McConnell, and Jack Goodlaxson for their enthusiastic support.
Thanks to all who helped make it a great night "For the Kids" at SLHS.
