Thank you, area manufacturers

Wednesday, October 30, 2013

During the month of October, all of Iowa has been celebrating and recognizing the nearly 6,000 manufacturers across the state. October is manufacturing month and we thank the nearly 110 manufacturing operations located in the Iowa Lakes Corridor region.

Manufacturing is a dominant industry in Iowa and in the Corridor region. Iowa is consistently among the top 10 states in percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) from manufacturing and it soared in 2011. Over 20 percent of the employment of the Corridor region is due to manufacturing employers -- that is more than 7,000 people. Manufacturing jobs tend to pay higher wages than jobs in many other sectors and manufacturing is experiencing very good growth in the Corridor region.

We anticipate hundreds of new manufacturing jobs and careers in the Corridor region over the next five years and encourage all residents to learn more about the goods and products made right here in our backyard. If you have not been inside a manufacturing facility recently, please take advantage of many tours offered by companies and see how firefighter suits, grain trailers, Victory and Indian Motorcycles, hydraulic pumps, ethanol, medical devices, wheel rims, archery products, feed bins, electric vehicles, fertilizer blenders, ATVs and more are made. We think you will be surprised at the level of innovation and technology that is right here and how clean, safe and attractive the work environments are today. So much so, high percentages of women are employed in manufacturing today.

Help us recognize and thank these companies for their investments, jobs, and community support.
