Time to choose
The Republican Party is in danger of losing one of its most important rallying points for its conservative base. Led by the religious conviction that abortion is nothing less than the murder of babies and that it should be stopped at all costs, has been the high banner of election campaigns, legislative bills, editorial comments and innumerable speeches.
Republican party leaders and several state governors are now analyzing recent election losses. Some have concluded that the loss of women voters was a factor in the vote swing and that the hard-line abortion position cost them needed votes. Their remedy to reclaim these voters was to reign in the push to restrict abortions. The question now surfaces -- is it worth abandoning such a long and strongly held party position to gain votes for some political candidates? Which counts more, integrity or political advantage?
