Softball: Early deficit hampers Pioneers

Okoboji couldn't overcome an early 6-0 deficit on the way to suffering a 9-4 setback at the hands of West Lyon Thursday, May 30 in Siouxland Conference softball action.

The Wildcats gained the early momentum with six runs in the first two innings.

After the Pioneers rallied back to within 6-1 with a solo tally in the top of the fourth, West Lyon put up three more runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Okoboji plated three runs of its own in the sixth, but they were held scoreless in the seventh.

Savannah Heithus was the losing pitcher after lasting only one inning. She allowed two unearned runs off two hits, walked none and struck out one. Sydney Boeckholt relieved Heithus over the final five innings, giving up three earned off five hits, walking seven and striking out three.

Winning pitcher Jaime Tracy got the win after showing great control of the strike zone, walking none and striking out six.

West Lyon held an 8-6 hits advantage.

Abby Taylor was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI for Okoboji. Anna Vos went 2-for-3 with a run while Sydney Boeckholt and Emily Wintz each had an RBI.
