Boys basketballL No.5 H-LP wraps up league championship
Harris-Lake Park all but wrapped up yet another Cornbelt Conference title with an 82-16 victory over Clay Central-Everly Tuesday in Cornbelt Conference boys basketball play.
"Overall our half-court trap bothered them a lot. We were able to get a lot of deflections and did a nice job of finishing on the other end for the most part," said Harris-Lake Park coach Jeff Sohn. "We shot the ball pretty well. We made 10 3-pointers tonight."
The Wolves never trailed and sprinted out to a 14-0 start to the contest. H-LP lead 21-2 at the end of the first quarter, 42-11 at the halftime break and 63-13 after three quarters.
H-LP drained 10-of-21 3-pointers and ended up 22-of-38 from 2-point range. They also made 8-of-13 foul shots and committed just five turnovers.
Eli Ihnen finished with 17 points and four steals. Brady Van Iperen added 16 points, four steals and five assists. Dahlton Burdorf had 14 points off the bench and Kade Heikens chipped in with 11 points and five assists. Colin Brons also had four assists.
"It was nice to see Dahlton come in there and play with confidence. He got some nice steals for us and knocked down a 3-pointer. We're going to need him to give us a solid contribution off the bench come the tournament trail," said Sohn."Brady's just been solid for us after the Christmas break. He's been shooting the ball well and getting runouts in transition. He understands his role well and does a good job with it."
The Wolves close out the week with home games versus Sibley-Ocheyedan Thursday and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on Friday.
