New city hall in Spirit Lake?

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

On March 5, 2013, Spirit Lake voters will go to the polls to vote on a $1.745 million bond issue to build a new city hall. This works out to be $365.99 for every man, woman and child in Spirit Lake.

City reserves of $500,000 will reduce the debt to $1,355,000 or $284.18 for every citizen. In March of last year, the city issued $9.1 million in general obligation bonds ($1,908 per person). The year 2007 and 2008 saw the greatest transfer of wealth from main street to Wall Street in the history of the world. We are now paying for this at the local level. Why not use the reserved to remodel the present city hall?

Vote March 5 not to increase debt on your grandchildren.
