Vander Plaats dilemma

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

The United States Supreme Court has announced that they will hear the case on the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California Proposition 8, which bans same sex marriage. DOMA has already been ruled unconstitutional in eight lower federal court decisions around the country, and is assumed by many to also be ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. As Vander Plaats led a successful campaign to dismiss three Iowa Supreme Court justices for this same decision, one has to wonder what he will do if the U. S. Supreme Court also rules that DOMA is unconstitutional.

It appears he has two choices: Declare those justices that voted against the DOMA act and Prop. 8 as activist judges and demand impeachment or apologize to judges David Baker, Michael Streit and Chief Justice Marsha Ternus for his ill-conceived campaign against them.
