A funeral service for Lorraine Ficken, 93, of Spirit Lake, was held Thursday, March 22 at United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Terril.
Lorraine Ficken was born Dec. 23, 1918 to William Wheatly and Mable Grace (Wood) Pickering in Newell.
She graduated from Terril High School in 1936 and attended Estherville Junior College. She taught rural schools in Emmet and Dickinson County for three years.
On March 23, 1940, Lorraine was united in marriage to Harley Ficken. In 1947, the couple made their home on a farm in rural Spirit Lake where Harley farmed and Lorraine enjoyed being a homemaker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was actively involved in UMC Women's Group. She was a 4-H leader for the Richland Rustlers for over 25 years. Lorraine was also involved in the Richland Sunshine Club, a member of the Farm Bureau Women, volunteered in the Hospital Auxiliary as well as RSVP.
Lorraine passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Lakes Regional Healthcare at 93 years of age.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Gene (Michelle) from Independence, Duane (Tammi) from Milford; daughter, Linda (Robert) Clark from Pocahontas, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Harley, and daughter, Janice Russell.
Turner Jenness Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
