Q&A with Coach Seversen

1. Who are the team's top returners?

"The three seniors will all play an important role in the lineup this year. Ann Magnuson is one of our top stroke swimmers. Her main events are the 200 IM, 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Kalei Roskens is our top breast stroker and Sarah Hussong excels in the 200 free and 100 breaststroke. The seniors are not only great swimmers but also great leaders."

2. What are the strengths of this year's team?

"We will be strong in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. We should also be able to have at least one really strong swimmer in each event, which is important for scoring."

3. What areas of the team need improving?

"After losing eight great seniors last year, the depth of our team will need improving, especially in the stroke events. As long as everyone works hard, stays focused and cuts time, we should be able to better compete with the bigger schools."

4. Any promising newcomers to look for this year?

"I am anticipating the new Spirit Lake swimmers, Emma Dau, Josie Hoien, Krista Larson, Shelby Morreim and Taylor Sieperda, to all have a great impact on the success of our team this year. Especially freshman Taylor Sieperda, who has had many great accomplishments in swimming, including swimming times that have never been swam at SHS."

5. Who are the favorites this year?

"Again this year, teams like Carroll and Lewis Central will be hard to beat. Sioux City Metro has also been very competitive in the past."

6. What will make this season successful?

"To be successfull this year is going to require our leaders to stay focused the entire season in order to improve themselves and push the rest of the swimmers to be their best. Our goal this year is for everyone to be the best they can be in practices and meets."
