Letter to the Editor

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

Dear Lakes Region stakeholders,

I wish I could sit down with each and every one of you to talk about the importance of Lakes Legacy Weekend to our community. Obviously that's not possible, so I hope this letter will motivate you to find out more.

Please join us for the Okoboji Foundation's Lakes Legacy Weekend events on June 24- 25, two exciting evenings to engage the Lakes Community. We will salute the giving spirit of Berkley and Elinor Bedell with presentation of our first Benefactor's Award, and highlight the Foundation's unlimited potential with a Lakes Legacy Celebration at Peace Harbor hosted by Molly and Tom Bedell.

Our publicity promotes two unforgettable evenings of fun, live music and amazing food. The parties themselves may be reason enough to attend, but what I really want everyone to consider is the lasting positive impact you will make in the lakes community by joining us.

The Okoboji Foundation is your community foundation. We exist to make a vital difference in the lives of our friends, families and visitors who share our connection to this truly amazing community. I invite you to visit our website at www.okobojifoundation.org for event sponsorship and ticket information. While you're there, please click on our Grants tab to see the resources we have initiated and sustained with over $2.2 million in awards. These grants from our endowment and Endow Iowa Funds support the lakes community during and after our lifetimes. Our Foundation's ability to offer the Endow Iowa Tax Credit is a win-win situation. With a 25 percent state tax credit in addition to normal federal tax deductions, our donors clearly benefit. The lakes community also benefits through significant grant awards directed to build important community resources forever.

Please join us to share the fun and the important work we do for our community.
