Services were held June 6, 2011, at the Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson for Ruby Kathleen Haynes.
Interment was at Franklin Township Cemetery in Cooper, Iowa.
Ruby Kathleen Jackson was born Jan. 25, 1930 in Sundance, Wyo., to James Thomas Jackson and Lillian Clarissabelle Hindman Jackson. Ruby lived in Sundance until she was five and her family moved to a farmstead in Guthrie County. She attended a country school until later graduating from Bayard High School in 1947. While Ruby was in high school, she enjoyed basketball, where she played as a guard on the Bayard Varsity Team.
Ruby raised five children from a previous marriage: Rick, Connie, Jim, Sandy and Vickie, in Greene County. Then she moved to Cedar Rapids in 1971 where she met William Alf Haynes. Ruby and William were united in marriage on May 18, 1980 in Bagley. They made their home in Cedar Rapids until retiring in 1992 and moving to their lake home at Arnolds Park on Lake Okoboji. They also bought a camper and loved to travel south for the winter.
Ruby was an excellent seamstress and loved to sew. She taught her children and many of her grandchildren how to sew, often starting them out on doll clothes. Ruby loved going to flea markets and collecting rocks and sea shells. She also enjoyed flowers and birds and fishing.
Ruby passed away on June 2, at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, at the age of 81 years. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; and two grandchildren. She is survived by her husband William Haynes of Jefferson, her children Richard (Debbie) Rice of Florence, S.C., Connie Garcia of Jefferson, James (Hallie) Rice of Scranton, Sandy (Gary) Scheuermann of Scranton, and Vickie Rice of Jefferson, 15 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
