Frederick Ekstrand

Frederick Ekstrand passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010.

Fred was born May 18, 1935, in Pocahontas to Ellen and Carl Ekstrand.

Fred was raised in Pocahontas, was baptized in the Covenant Church, graduated from Pocahontas High School, and attended North Park College in Chicago. He served in United States Army.

He married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Martens and celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. Fred and Phyllis raised their family in Milford and moved to Hot Springs Village in 1985.

Fred and Phyllis were founding members of the Community of Joy Lutheran Church in Hot Springs Village.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ellen and Carl Ekstrand, and his sisters Eleanor Shold, Lorraine Sundberg, and Harriet Omtevedt. He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis, his children, Susan and Odie Remien, Nancy and Ron O'Neal, and Douglas and Jeannette Ekstrand, and his grandchildren Augie, Jacqueline, Gretchen, Katherine Remien, Jordan O'Neal, and Danielle, Charlie, and Haley Ekstrand. He is also survived by his brother Web Ekstrand.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Community of Joy Lutheran Church of Hot Springs Village, Ark., with Pastor Ross Worch officiating.
