Alice Ada Benit

Alice Ada Benit was born Nov. 3, 1912, in Lakefield, Minn., the daughter of John and Alvina (Rust) Tomford. She was educated in a one room schoolhouse near Lakefield.

She was united in marriage to Herbert C. Benit on May 16, 1936. Her family always came first and then her home. Alice was interested in decorating, paintings and loved to go to the Art Center and flea markets. She was a member of the Methodist Church as well as the Garden Club. Alice was an avid flower gardener and loved her beautiful flowers. She entered a variety of crafts and flower arrangements at the Clay County Fair of which she won many ribbons.

Alice passed away Aug. 6, 2010 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at 97 years of age.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia of Portland, Ore.; son, Brad of Spirit Lake, Iowa; grandchildren, Richard O'Lear, Lynelle Benit, Sara Butler and Kelly Phillips; great-grandchildren, David Kollerer, Ashley O'Lear, Wyatt and Alayna Hinck, Ryan and Bailey Butler and Eli Phillips.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herb and a brother, Leonard.
