Funeral services for Tom McGill, 84 year old Buffalo man who passed away at the Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo, will be held Thursday, July 22, at 2:00 p.m. from the Adams Funeral Home in Buffalo. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Donations in Mr. McGill's memory may be made to the Tom McGill Memorial to help his family with final expenses. Burial will be in Milford, Iowa with graveside services to be held there next week.
Thomas Hugh McGill was born on February 28, 1926 in Milford, Iowa to Tom and May McGill. He grew up and went to school in Milford and graduated from Milford High School in 1944. He was drafted in to the U.S. Army two weeks after high school and served with the 95th Division in the European Theater during WWII. After the war he returned to Milford where he worked for Hinkles and McCoy Telephone. He was married on June 12, 1967 in Nashua, Iowa to Carolyn Freeman and they made their home in Green Town, Indiana where Tom was the State Supervisor for Hinkles and McCoy Telephone. In July of 1967, they moved back to Iowa and in 1972 they moved to Buffalo where Tom later took a job with U.S. West. Tom went to work for Qwest where he worked as a line inspector until he retired in 1982. After retiring Tom and Carolyn continued living in Buffalo until the time of his death.
Tom was a member of the American Legion and VFW and enjoyed snowmobiling and ice skating.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn of Buffalo; one son, Mike McGill, and his fiancé Diana DaSilva of Staten Island, N.Y. and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one nephew.
