Sam Speier, of Sioux Falls, S.D., passed July 15, 2010, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. He was 92.
Private family services have been held in Sioux Falls.
Mr. Speier was born August 10, 1917, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He attended college at the University of Michigan and the University of Nebraska and served four years in the armed forces. Mr. Speier seceded his father as owner of Shipley's Laundry. In 1950, he established Servall Linen Supply.
He married Betty Joy Fusfield on July 31, 1948. The Speiers have been summer residents of Okoboji since 1963, and longtime winter residents of Naples, Fla.
Mr. Speier was a supporter of many charitable organizations in Sioux Falls, Naples, and Okoboji, where he donated land and was instrumental in developing Speier Park.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; three daughters, Mary Mairose (Gordon), Patricia Billion, Susan Wingler (Gerry); and four grandchildren, Mark and Jeffery Billion, Stacy and Jennifer Wingler.
