A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26 at the United Methodist Church in Sibley for Margot Grace Wahl. Everyone is invited to stay for a luncheon following the service.

Margot Wahl died on May 16, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Village in Loveland, Colo. at the age of 90.

Margot was born August 22, 1919, in Wilton Junction to Frank and Grace Bacon. She attended school in Wilton Junction until the family moved to Ames, when she was in junior high. In 1940, she graduated from Iowa State University, majoring in Home Economics/Institutional Management.

Margot worked in Des Moines for three years and in 1943 married Robert Wahl who was serving in the Army Veterinary Corps at Carlisle Barracks, Penn. After the war, they made their home in Sibley where her husband practiced veterinary medicine for 35 years in partnership with Dr. Walt Herrmann. It was here that they raised their four children.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Osceola Hospital Auxiliary, P.E.O., Chapter CE, sewing club and bridge club. She worked for 10 years as a teacher's aide at Ben Franklin Grade School before moving in retirement to Spirit Lake, where she and her husband made their summer home their permanent residence. She enjoyed lake living and was active in the United Methodist Women's Organization, served on the administrative council of the Methodist Church, and was a board member of the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital and a member of P.E.O., Chapter BE.

In 2004, Margot and Bob moved to Loveland, Colo., to be close to their two daughters. Margot was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and P.E.O., Chapter DR, where she was honored for being a 60- year member. Margot lived at the Good Samaritan Village during the last two years of her life.

Margot is survived by her daughter Kathy Reents and son-in-law Dr. Will Reents of Loveland, Colo.; daughter Peggy O'Doherty and son-in-law Bob O'Doherty of Centennial, Colo.; son Dr. Bob Wahl Jr. of Honolulu, Hawaii; son Jim Wahl and daughter-in-law Jeannie Wahl of Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Margot was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Bob Wahl, two brothers Frank and George Bacon, and daughter-in-law Karolen Fahrni Wahl.

Homemaking was Margot's special joy. She showed her loving and caring spirit through sharing her culinary efforts with family and friends. She will be remembered for her warm smile and words of kindness. Above all else, she was a devoted, faithful, and giving wife, mother, and friend.

Being a member of a faith community was important to Margot. Memorial donations may be given in her memory to any of the congregations of which she was a member.
