The planned breach of Lower Gar Road near Milford has been put on hold indefinitely, according to a press release issued this afternoon by the Army Corps of Engineers.

"The melt conditions have been ideal," said Col. Rober Ruch, Omaha District Commander. "There has been little or no additional rain or snow, relatively cool daytime temperatures and cold nights. These conditions have significantly reduced the volume of runoff."

Also in the release, the Army Corps shared updated runoff forecasting indiciating the lake is expected to crest at an elevation 1397.3 to 1397.6 feet, about 1 - 0.4 feet below the level an estimated point of damage. Also shared was a revised runoff forecast of 60 to 80 percent and below normal rainfall.

The action halts a contract awarded late last week to Soukup Construction of Sioux City.
