A funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard for Melvin E. "Bud" Busch.
He passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010, at his home south of Ledyard, at the age of 87. The Rev. Doug Van Der Pol is officiating. Burial is at Highland Home Cemetery, Ledyard with military honors conducted by the Matzener-Estle American Legion Post # 675.
Melvin Eugene "Bud" Busch was born December 11, 1922, in Ledyard, son of Alvin and Ethel (Pingel) Busch. He grew up in the Ledyard area and graduated from Ledyard High School. Bud then enlisted in the United States Marines.
Bud married Alberta "Bertie" Westre on November 25, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Humboldt. They then farmed in the Ledyard area.
He was active in the Ledyard Legion Auxiliary. He was a World War II Veteran. Bud loved being with his family especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed farming, playing cards, dancing, going to many ball games and spending time at their family lake home.
He is survived by his five children, Susan Zevenbergen and her husband, Loren, of Ocheyedan, June Bauer and her husband Rick of Bancroft, Juliann Amy and her husband Wayne of Elmore, Minn., Gene Busch and his wife Karen of Ledyard, and Richard Busch of Elmore, Minn.; eleven grandchildren, Zachariah, Natasha Johnson and John, Elijah Zevenbergen, Heather Olsen and her husband Benjamin, Derrick Bauer and Danica, and Lana Bauer, Tyler Amy and Allison, Trevor Amy, Trey and Peyton Busch, and Keegan Busch; three great-grandchildren, Riley Bauer, Lyle and Siri Olsen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by wife Alberta (Bertie), his parents; his brothers Kenneth, Leroy, Myron, Leo, sister Wilma.
