Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 3, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal for Cheryl Renee Dykshoorn Buren, who passed away Feb. 28 at Spencer Hospital at the age of 57.
Interment was at Willow Creek Cemetery in Royal. The Rev. Dr. Jo Frahm Watkins officiated.
Cheryl Dykshoorn Buren, the daughter of Lowell and Nell (Dekker) Dykshoorn, was born on October 18, 1952 at Sheldon. She attended elementary and junior high school in Sheldon and in 1966, her family moved to Spencer where she graduated from Spencer High School in 1970. Following high school she worked at Rexall Drug, Winslow's and the Prime Rib.
Cheryl married Mike Buren in 1975 at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. From this union there were two sons, Scott and Walt.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Royal where she made her home from 1975. The joys of her life were her children and family. She loved working at the Prime Rib for the past 30 years with all the wonderful help. Cheryl loved her flower garden and spent many hours tending it. She found great joy in entertaining her family and friends. She was committed to her community.
Cheryl passed away on February 28 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 57. She is preceded in death by her grandparents: Abe and Alice Dykshoorn and Bas and Martha Dekker, in addition to a brother-in-law, Byron Roos.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved Gary; sons: Scott Buren of Royal and Walt Buren of Spencer and Heath (Rebecca) Huberg; her parents, Lowell and Nell Dykshoorn; siblings: Marcia Roos of Sheldon and Rick (Karen) Dykshoorn of Spirit Lake.
Pallbearers were Scott Buren, Walt Buren, Gary Huberg, Jerry Larson,
Rick Dykshoorn and Derrick Dykshoorn.
