Remembering Joey

My heart broke when I heard the news of KUOO's Joey Elbert's passing Monday, Feb. 22. I always remember the passion and excitement in his voice each and every time he called a game on the radio. It was a joy to listen to his style and I know the coaches, athletes and fans appreciated it.

What I also remember is how he carried himself with class and professionalism. Even though I was only at the Lakes for two and a half years, the lessons Joey taught me, albeit indirectly, were powerful and are ones that I try to use each and every day and will do so for the rest of my life. I know my life is much, much better because of Joey's influence.

Sports journalism in Iowa has lost one of its greats and the world has lost an even better person. My condolences to his wife and two children.
