Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 23 at St. John's Lutheran Church in May City for Carl Leonard Bach Pederson.
Carl passed away at the Avera Spencer Hospital in Spencer on February 18, 2010 at the age of 81.
Burial was at Harrison Township Cemetery in May City. The Rev. Paul Johnson officiated.
Carl Leonard Bach Pedersen, the son of Laurens and Anna (Rautzke) Pedersen, was born on July 20, 1928, on the family farm near Harris. He attended Harrison #1 country school near his home. Carl proudly served his country in the U. S. Army from January 6, 1951 to October 8, 1952 during the Korean War.
On March 30, 1974, Carl was united in marriage to Sharon Milner at the Congressional Church in Sheldon. Following their marriage the couple resided on Carl's family farm near May City, where they were engaged in farming and raising cattle. In the early 1980s the couple took a trip to Denmark with Carl's father to visit some of their family. In November of 2007 they retired from farming and moved to the Milford Nursing Home in Milford. He was still involved with the daily functions of the farm.
Carl was baptized in 1928 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in May City and was confirmed in 1944. He was also a member of the Arthur W. Kirchoff Post #288 American Legion in Hartley. He enjoyed old cars, tractors, and occasionally talking to people in four different languages. (Mostly little quotes.) Most of all Carl was a people person and enjoyed passing the time visiting with friends and neighbors. He is survived by his wife Sharon of 35 years, other relatives and friends.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Pallbearers were Duane Drost, Walter Norem, Duane Bleeker, Paul Berends, Curt Van Engen and Bob Joens.
Military Graveside Rites were performed by Arthur W. Kirchoff Post #288 of Hartley.
